Nritya Tarang
There is a certain dramatic quality, precision and spontaneous energy that makes Kuchipudi, so exhilarating to watch. With roots in yakshagana, a folk theatre form, it is one of the eight classical dance forms of South India based on the ancient Sanskrit text, Natya Shastra.
In 'Nritya Tarang', Amrita takes the audience through a rich repertoire of classical Kuchipudi pieces, in their complete essence and beauty. The performance showcases works of many choreographers in the Kuchipudi
style as well as her own, including the emotive 'kalapam', which delves deep into a single character's narrative, and the dynamic 'tarangam', which combines storytelling and rhythmic dance with Kuchipudi's signature footwork on a brass plate. Audiences are also treated to the poetic 'javali', a piece that explores the emotions of a particular 'nayika' through evocative music and movement.
Honed over three decades of training with the finest gurus of Indian classical dance, Amrita presents these and many other pieces, including her own choreographies.
'Nritya Tarang' has garnered critical acclaim across India, the USA, Switzerland, Southeast Asia, and South Africa.
