Performance

  • Amrita is a rare soloist who can present Kuchipudi from its traditional roots to its contemporary forms.

  • She is known for her physicality, sprightliness, and dynamic stage presence.

  • Studied and performed with legendary gurus of Indian dance including Vempati Chinna Satyam, Leela Samson, Sharmila Biswas, Kishore Mosalikanti, Anuradha Nehru.

  • Notable performances: NCPA, Mumbai; Museum Rietberg, Zurich; Esplanade, Singapore; Dancing the Gods, New York City; Philippines; Sangeet Natak Akademi; Kalakshetra, Music Academy.

  • Awarded 'Kala Bharat Ratna' award in 2024 for excellence in performance and choreography.

Choreography

  • Amrita goes deep into the roots of Indian dance, but also finds its branches in contemporary work. Hers is an innovative approach, coming from the appreciation of the philosophy behind the art, combined with extensive international experience. 

  • New productions include 'Chitra', 'Murchhana- the Spirit of Music', 'Nritya Tarang', 'Samudra- the Ocean mother', 'Converse- a duet', and 'Mandala'.

With Gurus

Amrita has worked under choreographers Leela Samson, Sharmila Biswas, Jaikishore Mosalikanti, Swapnasundari and Anuradha Nehru, all renowned dance gurus.

Curation

Her expertise in dance has earned her leadership roles in arts organisations around the world National Centre for Performing Arts, the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre, Kalakshetra, Museum Rietberg, the American Dance Festival, and the Kennedy Center. She has extensive experience in curating a program calendar, creating and managing budgets, collaborating with PR, Marketing, production, and outreach teams.

  • Curated over 200 shows and workshops for NCPA; audience attendance grew by 27% during Amrita's tenure at NCPA.

  • Curated over 100 shows for NMACC, Mumbai; built and engaged enthusiastic dance audiences-over 95% audience attendance for all shows​​.

Education

  • Having grown up in Washington D.C. until age 16 and later in India, Amrita has engaged with international audiences from a young age.
     

  • She has led workshops and lecture demonstrations that engage a range of target audiences- from school students in rural India (through Spicmacay) to art connoisseurs in Switzerland (at Museum Rietberg).
     

  • Amrita taught at SIFAS (Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society), Singapore's largest and oldest Indian arts institution, from 2016 to 2019. She developed a Kuchipudi syllabus for the institute and a system of Kuchipudi exams.
     

  • Amrita has shared the beauty and joy of classical dance with students in schools such as Cathedral, The Shri Ram School, Bombay International School, amongst others.
     

  • She speaks and writes on the arts, especially their importance in resilience and transformation, and is based in Delhi with her two young sons.
